Heidi Caillard began making these ceramic guinea fowl in 1974 in the small hilltop village of Lussan in the south of France, fascinated by the birds that wandered freely in her garden. Fifty years on, the tradition continues with her son Adrien. Each bird is hand-built and hand-painted using a special technique that gives the glazes their distinctive warmth and depth — no two are exactly the same. They have quietly become collector's pieces around the world, and it's easy to see why. The voluptuous body, the slender neck, the spotted plumage — there is something almost abstract about the guinea fowl's shape, and Heidi caught it perfectly.

Deep Bordeaux with white spots — one of the more dramatic colorways in the Caillard collection, and one that looks particularly good grouped with the quieter tones. A bird that holds its own on a shelf or sideboard without demanding the whole room.
