Jeff Litchfield is a friend of ours, and what he makes in his shop is the kind of thing that reminds you what it means for an object to be truly handmade. A third generation machinist with over 40 years of experience, Jeff works on a non-computerized 1950s manual lathe using traditional machinist's hand tools, turning each brass candleholder the old fashioned way. The Beehive was discovered by happy accident: once Jeff had mastered the notoriously difficult task of turning a perfect sphere on a manual lathe, he machined in grooves to follow the curvature of the ball and realized it looked exactly like a beehive. The result is a piece that feels both entirely modern and deeply rooted in the tradition of fine brassware, with the satisfying weight and precision that only solid metal and skilled hands produce. Solid C360 brass.
